EAST LANSING — Someday, the corridor that runs between the Capitol and Webberville will be a set of distinct neighborhoods linked by public transit — designed to resemble a “string of pearls,” according to a report unveiled Wednesday.Cities and townships wanting to beautify a 20-mile stretch of Michigan Avenue, Grand River Avenue and M-43 should create tree-lined medians, buildings lining streets and a bus rapid transit system that travels in its own dedicated traffic lane, according to a team of national planners.
